1. After I installed JYLUpdates, nothing happens?
Normally new screen saver will take effect the next login to windows (not immediately). If it does not show up after the next login, click JYLUpdates icon on the desktop, and then go to preview. Alternatively, you can directly go to control panel, screen saver. Make sure JYLUpdates is selected in the list of screen saver, and click 'Apply' butt on.
2. After I installed JYLUpdates, only its logo showing?
Some anti-virus software are known to hold new applications up to ask users to valid. For example, Zone Alarm will prompt user a couple of time for luanching JYLUpdates and also allowing it to access internet. If this is the case, you only need to allow it to run, and click on 'do not ask the next time'.
3. After I installed JYLUpdates, I only see pictures, not RSS?
When there is a proxy server between your computer and the internet (such as those in many large company and organizations), you need to fill in ip address (or server name) of the proxy server. In this case, go to the first tab of JYLUpdates Configurator, fill in ip address in the proxy server box. Normally you do not need to fill in user name/password, unless your internet id (username/password) is different from your LAN id.
4. How to select my favourite RSS pages?
Click on the JYLUpdates icon on the desktop. On the 2nd tab, you can edit you list for displaying. JYLUpdates provides some RSS links for you to select. Alternatively, you can use copy/paste to select your favorite RSS links. You can also directly type in your choice of link in the cell.
5. How to select my favorite pictures to display?
Click on the JYLUpdates icon on the desktop. On the 2nd tab, you can type in the location of a picture file (most commonly used .jpg file) on your local drive. You can also use wild card (*.jpg) to randomly display pictures from a folder.
6. How to select my favorite pictures on internet?
Click on the JYLUpdates icon on the desktop. On the 2nd tab, type in a URL of picture location from the internet. When the picture file is greater than 50 kb, the program will cache the file on your local and update at the same frequency as RSS (default every hour). When picture file is smaller than 50 kb, the program will load picture every display cycle (depending on how many items you have to display, the cycle can range from a few seconds to few minutes).
7. How to set background patterns or textures?
Click on the JYLUpdates icon on the desktop. Alternatively, you can directly go to control panel, screen saver, settings. Once the dialog is open, click on 3rd tab 'Format', and check the box "Background Image?" and look for a .jpg to load a picture as background. If you want to apply a texture, you can select a .bmp file (you can find example files from Windows folder under c drive).
