JYLUpdates 1.0 User Instruction

JYLUpdates is normally configured by JYLUpdates Configurator.  Upon a successful installation, an icon is installed on the desktop.

Alternatively, users can go to Windows desktop control, and select Settings on Screen Saver.

JYLUpdates Configurator has 4 tabs, namely 'General', 'RSS List', 'Format', and 'Help'.

General Tab

Display selection contains 4 options:

RSS Settings:

Exit on Mouse Move (normal screensaver mode) -- if not checked, the program will exit only by mouse clicking, not mouse moving. In the latter case, tooltip will display description of news title.

Use Proxy Server -- for users with proxy servers (at many large companies), you need to fill in proxy server address. In case you are using different login ids for internet access, you also need to fill in username and password.

Go To Preview -- this is a shortcut to Windows desktop control screen.

RSS List Tab

You can add, edit and remove RSS links, and also arrange the sequence of displaying. Besides the buttons, you can alway directly type in an RSS URL, or copy/paste one. For displaying pictures, if you type a wildcard (*), JYLUpdates will randomly pick up a picture from th efolder and display it.

Move Up -- highlight a cell and move it up;

Move Down -- highlight a cell and move it down;

Add Row -- add an empty row at the end;

Remove Row -- highlight a cell and remove it;

Test Link -- highlight a cell and test if it is a valid link;

Select Pictures -- highlight a cell (exist or newly added empty cell) and open local files for selection;

Search RSS -- show recommended RSS sites;

Select RSS -- highlight a cell (exist or newly added empty cell) and select an RSS from the recomended RSS list.

Format Tab

RSS Font -- Font of RSS content;

RSS Title Font -- Font of RSS title;

Clock Font -- Font of Clock number;

Background Image -- when it is checked, image in the location specified in 'Background Image Source' will be used; this can also used for apply texture files;

Browse for Image File -- open local files for selection (note: texture files are available in c:\windows).
